Turramurra softballer Tahli Moore has been selected to play for Australia.
The 24-year-old was named in the national team following impressive recent form and will make her international debut in the 2019 Asia Pacific Cup at Blacktown next week.
“Making the Australian team for the first time this year was my first major goal, and I was so excited to be named on the team,” Moore told the North Shore Times. “I have done four years of softball in college and a season in the Netherlands to build my skills and understanding of the game to get to where I am now.
“I’m looking forward to any opportunities I get on the diamond and will be giving it my all.”
Moore’s passion for the game began at St Ives.
“I first got interested in softball as my mum and sister were playing while I grew up and I have been around the diamonds at St Ives since I was born,” she said. “I loved the team nature of the sport.”
The former Loreto Normanhurst student travelled to the United States on a softball scholarship and studied at James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Virginia. She has also recently completed her Masters.
Now she says her goal is the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo.
“I remember watching the Australian teams play at the Olympics in 2008 in Beijing, the last time softball was an Olympic sport,” she said.

“When the announcement that softball was not to be in the London or Rio Olympics it hurt, but I do remember the day it was announced that softball was to return for the 2020 Olympics and I was ecstatic. I knew if I worked hard enough I could potentially have a chance to go, as it has been a dream of mine to be an Olympian.”
Only six teams will make the games. Japan and the USA have cemented their spots and four more teams will compete to take them on in Tokyo.
The Aussies will compete in China this September for their spot in the Games.
