ANOTHER act of tree hacking in Mosman has led to a renewed push for CCTV cameras along Military Rd.
Vandals hacked at the bases of two trees lining the walkway near the Military Rd and Raglan St intersection on Friday night.
Councillor Simon Menzies said he was angry about the incident and added it was time Mosman Council put money towards CCTV.
“To my mind, the council should be investigating installing CCTV along Military Rd,” Cr Menzies said.
“There’s been a spate of vandalism taking place on Friday nights throughout the year.”
Cr Menzies said he would be calling on council to obtain quotes to install cameras at next month’s council meeting.
To pay for the installation of CCTV, council should transfer funds from planned satellite parking technology, Cr Menzies said.
“I think the money could be better spent protecting our assets,” he said.
Cr Menzies estimated there would need to be 12 cameras installed between Mosman and Spit junctions.
He said residents were in favour of the cameras.
“There’s a lot of community support for CCTV,” he said.

Cr Menzies said the last term of council had a streetscape upgrade plan that included CCTV but “the new council hasn’t progressed the project”.
In June, vandals hacked at eight trees along Military Rd, causing $8000 worth of damage.
