LOOKING good comes at a cost and research has revealed what Australians are paying to keep up appearances.
More than $100 billion a year is spent on fashion and grooming, with NSW residents among the biggest spenders.
In just four weeks they spent an average of $699 on a range of luxuries including make-up, shoes and fashion.
Suncorp Bank’s Cost Of Looking Good report discovered that the highest average spend in NSW was on non-surgical cosmetic enhancements such as tattoos and Botox.
People were also happy to splash out on facials, manicures and waxing.
So what is the cost of looking good in Mosman?
A stroll down Military Rd could see a platinum credit card part with thousands of dollars on designer fashion and fresher skin.
On the surface it appears to be overflowing with stylish locals and their designer handbags.
However, a fashion expert says Mosmanites are savvy with their cash when it comes to looking their best.
“I hate that term Mosman mum,” said personal stylist Felicity Roche.
“I find a lot of clients are time poor. They are busy in jobs and careers and they aren’t just out shopping.”
Ms Roche runs Style Smart and helps her clients put together outfits.
Many of her customers come to her once a season and they can spend up to $2000 on a shopping trip.
“I don’t have clients that are frivolous. They are careful with their money,” she said.
Her customers, both men and women, are aged in their thirties to seventies.
Alongside work wear she also specialises in packing bags for holidays.
She helps clients choose their outfits for their travels.
“I’ll come in and make sure everything matches,” she said.
CUSTOMERS WANT RESULTS IN RETURN FOR THEIR CASH
Flawless skin and gleaming teeth are coveted by many Mosman natives.
Clean, Clear and Correct is a hub for Botox, laser facials and teeth whitening in the middle of the village.
General manager Natalie Brassell has found that customers do spend a lot of money on cosmetic injectables. But she pointed out that cash is spent carefully.
“I’d like to say money is no object but that is not the case,” she said.
“People in Mosman are savvy with their money.
“They want a result.”
Some customers spend up to $3000 on their face in a bid to slow down the ageing process with Botox and fillers.
This would be maintained on a regular basis with clients returning every four to eight months.
The average client would spend up to $440 on a range of treatments and some spend just $50 on one procedure. The beauty clinic welcomes men, women and teens — and the clientele includes media personalities.
“I think everybody wants to feel their best. They want clear skin, straight teeth and whiter teeth,” Ms Brassell said. Like the Mosman Daily on Facebook.
