FEDERAL funding of $20 million for a new harbourside park at HMAS Platypus in north Sydney is on track.
North Sydney MP Trent Zimmerman visited the site this week and is looking forward to the transformation of the former submarine base.
Platypus is nearing the end of a $43 million clean-up to remove pollutants from its days as a gas works.
Work on the new parkland is expected to start later this year and will take about 12 months.
“We are now looking to the next stage,” he said.
Mr Zimmerman asked the Environment Minister Greg Hunt to provide an update on the project during question time last week.
The minister confirmed funding is on track and that community consultation is one of the next steps.
Mr Zimmerman, who campaigned for the revitalisation of the land, said there will be an open day at the site soon.
“It’s been locked up for a long time and I’m keen to let residents back in to see how it’s looking,” he said. Like the Mosman Daily on Facebook.
