St Leonards Crows Nest 2036 to face more scrutiny
Concerns about a plan for up to 7,525 more homes around St Leonards and Crows Nest by 2036 have prompted the government to give residents more time to provide feedback.
Concerns about a plan for up to 7,525 more homes around St Leonards and Crows Nest by 2036 have prompted the government to give residents more time to provide feedback.
The St Leonards and Crows Nest 2036 draft plan provides for more homes and 16,500 additional jobs in the defined area, which includes parts of Artarmon, Greenwich, Naremburn and Wollstonecraft.
This includes rezoning many properties to allow for buildings of up to 18 storeys.
There would also be five tall “significant sites”, and a 27-storey building above the underground metro train station at Crows Nest.
However residents’ and councils’ concerns have prompted the Department of Planning to allow more scrutiny.
The December 3 deadline for feedback has been revised to February 8.
A spokesman for Planning Minister Anthony Roberts confirmed the extension was due to requests from the community and councils.
Staff at Lane Cove Council have reported the housing targets exceed their strategy.
They have many other concerns, including what they say would be the uneven distribution of developer contributions across local government areas.
The government says its plan would provide new and upgraded parks, new pedestrian and bicycle paths and maintain the area’s character.
