BEING born without the physical abilities people take for granted has been no barrier for Matt Levy, who has the Rio Paralympics within his reach.
The Cremorne swimmer is legally blind and has cerebral palsy but it is a lack of financial resources which is keeping him from the starting blocks.
The 29-year-old aims to make his fourth Paralympic Games this year and has won six medals at the past two Games including two gold.
The OAM recipient started a Rio fundraising campaign on the GoFundMe crowd-funding website in December.
He is almost halfway to achieving his goal of raising $10,000 to help him train for, travel to and compete in the lead-up events to earn a spot on the Paralympic team. Selection trials take place next month.
Levy’s dream is to win gold in September.
“I like the feeling of representing my country,” he said. “I keep on competing because I enjoy it.”
