DEIDRE Flick, a self-funded retiree from Mosman, is a bigot in pearls.
She warns about Syrian refugees sailing into Balmoral, thinks Labor voters are common and as for gay marriage, well, that’s beyond the pale.
“Deidre is a shocker,’’ says Deidre’s creator, comedian Brent Thorpe.
“She is extremely right wing, incredibly conservative and the smarter she tries to sound, the bigger the hole she digs for herself.’’
Although Deidre lives in Mandalong Rd, according to Thorpe, he wouldn’t dare bring her out for a public appearance in Mosman — in case someone agrees with her.
“At one show, I had a lady from Killara congratulate me on Deidre’s views,’’ laughed Thorpe.
“The woman didn’t realise it was satire and had taken the whole thing completely seriously.’’
Thorpe, who lives in Marrickville, has again dusted off Deidre’s pearls, fur stole and feathered hat to appear in the upcoming satire Australia Votes 2016 opening soon at the Harold Park Hotel in Glebe.
It’s the same gang of actors who brought The Year of the Abbott and The Book of Kevin.
Once again a cast of comedians take the political mickey out of everyone from Christopher Pyne to a Donald Trump strategist.
Australia Votes 2016 — The Political Year in Review is at the Harold Park Hotel in Glebe from June 24 to April 8. Tickets are $14/$18. Bookings: gottazip.com
