One of the north shore’s top private schools has released plans to create a new prep facility next to its main campus in a move it said would meet demand from local families.

The new junior school facility catering for girls aged 3-5 years would be built by Roseville College as part of a $453,000 plan lodged to Ku-ring-gai Council.

The development would be located in a Federation era home at 19 Bancroft Ave, Roseville located next to the college’s main campus.

Property records show the Sydney Anglican Schools Corporation bought the property back in 2015 for an undisclosed sum.

The development project includes minor internal alterations to the building, landscaping work to create new play spaces, and a new pedestrian entry to Bancroft Ave.

The plans are the latest expansion proposal by the school which was previously given approval in 2021 to build a $29.5m multistorey sport and wellbeing centre. The facility includes a swimming pool, rooftop sports court, a strength and conditioning gym for students, new food and technology hubs and classrooms.

The development of the facility will incorporate a residential property at 37 Bancroft Ave, also owned by the school.

The approval came despite opposition from some residents who opposed impacts on the character of the surrounding heritage conservation area and concerns “the school was continually expand its footprint to do so”.

Property sales records published by CoreLogic show other homes acquired by the Anglican School Association on the street include 23 Bancroft Ave which was purchased for $10m in 2022.

The new prep facility would cater for 20 children and operate from 8am to 3.15pm on weekdays.

Programs set to be offered at the site include indoor activities, free play, group literary learning session, rest time and small group activities.

Occasionally, after hours events could also be held including parent information seminars on topics of interest such as child mental health, and performances and showcase evenings.

Development plans by the school show the prep facility would fall within the 1250 student cap at the college and therefore would not result in any additional students or staff on the site.

A school spokeswoman said the preparatory school was planned to open in 2024.

“Roseville Prep is for students in the year prior to Kindergarten and is a welcoming introduction into formal schooling,” she said. “The building (at 19 Bancroft Ave) has been part of the school for a decade, and prior to that was an educational centre run by the Shepherd Centre.

“As a longstanding part of our campus, the facilities at 19 Bancroft Ave have been used as classroom spaces as well as administrative offices and the school’s uniform store.

“As we prepare for prep to open in 2024, part of the facilities at 19 Bancroft will be updated to ensure they are appropriate to support the learning, care and safety of our prep students.”

Other works include a new pedestrian gate, fences and zebra crossings across the driveway within the site.

Three carparking spaces at the campus would be removed as part of the project.

The plans have been lodged to Ku-ring-gai Council and are currently under assessment.
