“We did not know what to expect,” co-owner Joe Angelone said.

“I had a cafe in the city for 22 years and then I found this site.... I asked my chef (Keng Yeoh), ‘how are you with making pizza?’

“He said he used to work at a pizza shop in Leichhardt and he was confident he could do a good job.”

That proved to be an understatement.

The award-winning shop has become a household name in the community.

“Customers in Waverton, Wollstonecraft and McMahons Point, in particular, have been great... the have been very supportive,” he said.

“They appreciate good food.”

Mr Angelone said Capo Pizza had prided itself on offering high-quality food across the board.

“I’ve been to a lot of places where they may have good pizza but not good pasta.

“We try to give customers good pizza, good pasta and good salads.”

In further revealing Capo Pizza’s recipe for success, Mr Angelone said the buisness also allows their dough to ‘prove’ — a cooking process allowing the dough to rise — for 48 hours.

And the community doesn’t just support the business by eating its delicious pizzas on offer.

“We have kids from around the community working here,” Mr Angelone said.

“It’s nice to have parents come in and say, ‘my son and daughter are looking for a job’.

“It shows they want their kids working at a place with quality.”
