Police concerns over tattoo parlour planned for Neutral Bay
POLICE have ordered strict conditions for a new tattoo parlour set to open on the north shore, saying it raises the risk for crime and assaults.
POLICE have ordered strict conditions for a tattoo parlour set to open in Neutral Bay.
North Sydney Council requested police input after receiving a development application to transform a Military Rd property.
“The proposed development lends itself to possibly being considered a high risk location in terms of property crime, assaults and gang related activity given the history of tattoo parlours and the association with the criminal element,” the NSW Police submission said.
It raised concerns about the potential clientele visiting the area and requested stringent conditions to be part of the development consent.
These included CCTV and that all staff maintain a record of their employment.
Approval was granted by the North Sydney Independent Planning Panel late last year.
“A tattoo parlour is a permissible use in a Mixed Use Zone, such as a village centre, and police concerns were specifically addressed in the conditions of consent,” a council spokeswoman said.
Council received one submission from a concerned member of the public.
“I feel that this is the totally wrong area for a tattoo shop,” the resident said.
“It could be unpleasant for restaurant patrons if there are a lot of tattoo customers frequenting the shop.”
The premises was previously a laser clinic and the new business is called Good Fellaz Ink.
Signs have already been installed and a notice states that it will be opening soon.
Plans for a tattoo parlour in Mosman were scrapped in 2013 in the face of community opposition.
The Mosman Daily has contacted Good Fellaz Ink for comment.
