Northbridge Sailors Bay Rd crash: man in hospital after being hit

A pedestrian suffered a broken leg in a nasty crash on the north shore this morning. Just hours later a second pedestrian was hit at the same spot.

A man is in hospital with serious injuries after being struck by a car on Sydney’s north shore.

Police were called to the intersection of Sailors Bay Rd and Bligh St in Northbridge just after 7am this morning after the male pedestrian was involve in a collision with a car.

The 56-year-old was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics on scene before being taken to Royal North Shore Hospital in a serious but stable condition.

Emergency services were called to the scene just after 7am.

The driver – a 65-year-old man – was uninjured and has been taken to Royal North Shore Hospital for mandatory testing.

A NSW Ambulance spokesman said the pedestrian sustained a broken leg in the incident.

He said paramedics were also called back to the scene just before 12pm after another collision between a car and pedestrian at the same intersection.

In that incident, the spokesman said the pedestrian sustained minor injuries and was able to walk home.

Paramedics were diverted to his home to provide a medical assessment.

One neighbour, whose home faces onto the intersection, said road safety was an ongoing concern for residents.

“I didn’t see what happened but cars hurtle along here at 100 miles an hour,” he said.

“There were a lot of police and paramedics. It looked serious.”

There is no suggestion either of the vehicles were speeding in the crashes today.

An investigation into the earlier incident is now underway by police and officers from the Crash Investigation Unit who are conducting inquiries into the cause of the collision.
