Development plans for a new fresh food and grocery market at Northbridge Plaza have been revealed after the site was suddenly closed to customers last year.
LoSurdos Fresh Food Grocer has lodged an $800,000 application to Willoughby Council to take over the main ground entrance tenancy at the Sailors Bay Rd plaza for a new fruit market and retail store.
The company was founded in Double Bay in 1957 by Domenic LoSurdo and has previously operated stores in Chatswood and North Sydney.
LoSurdos is now headed by Dominic’s son, Robert, and over the years has serviced a string of famous regulars including Kerry Packer, John Laws and Rene Rivkin.
The move comes almost 12 months after previous tenant – Anticos – closed its doors after a well-reported lease dispute with owners of the plaza.
Northbridge Plaza in a statement said it was not able to disclose details of the disagreement but it was committed to “deliver a quality retail offer for customers”.
“We look forward to opening a new fresh food grocer in the coming months,” the company said.
LoSurdos said items sold at the new store would include items “direct from the very best growers and farmers” as well as local producers.
The store is expected to open in mid-2020.
