A new Sydney Metro stop in North Sydney is set to bring about a culinary boom for the town centre with a string of new dining destinations due to open in coming months.

French restaurants, bakeries, fast food outlets and a new venue planned by the owners of Marrickville Pork Roll are among the new eateries set to turn the North Sydney CBD into the city’s next eat street.

The launch of many of the new venues will coincide with the opening of the Victoria Cross Metro station which is due to open to passengers by the middle of this year.

Once up and running, the station will connect passengers to the Metro line at Chatswood and the CBD towards Bankstown in the south.

The opening is expected to see a surge in foot traffic in the North Sydney town centre with more than 15,000 passengers expected to use the station in peak periods.

Plans lodged to North Sydney Council show there will be more than 20 food businesses located in the station precinct including a new grill restaurant called T15 ‘Koji’, and Doodoo King.

As part of the opening of the Metro, north shore diners will also get a taste of the inner west with Newtown’s Mary’s and Marrickville Pork Roll both set to open venues within the station precinct.

Also opening will be Only Coffee, Top Impressions Bakery, Sushi Hub, Dopa, North Sandwiches and Machi Machi.

Owners of nearby sites are also cashing in on the expected rise in pedestrians driven by the Metro line with a series of new venues planned within walking distance of the station.

At the Aura by Aqualand development at 168 Walker Street, four new eateries are due to open by hospitality company Etymon Projects including an LA-inspired restaurant and bar called Soluna.

Also launching will be Japanese restaurant, Genzo, a bakery, cafe and wine bar called Sol, and an artisanal providore, Una.

Genzo is described as offering kushiyaki (skewers), noodles, and raw dishes along with a drinks menu featuring items including sake.

Soluna will have indoor and outdoor dining areas with LA-inspired snacks, seafood, salads, pasta, and grill-style mains.

Una will meanwhile offer gourmet artisanal produce and items including cheeses, cured meats, parfait and pate, fresh pastas and sauces and wines.

Etymon Projects chief executive Lisa Hobbs, said there was “a real appetite for more hospitality this side of the bridge.”

“North Sydney has a great buzz to it and we see this growing especially with the Metro opening later this year,” she said.

Lendlease, which was awarded the contract to build the Victoria Cross development, said the metro station had been designed to become a “social hub for workers, visitors and locals”.

“Victoria Cross is going to bring a new wave of hospitality offers to North Sydney – we are going to see a little bit of Newtown and a bit of Haymarket along with Sydney CBD icons joining some of the best from the north side of the bridge,” project director Jessica Paterson said.

The new restaurants will join a wave of thriving venues recently launched in North Sydney including Glorietta and RAFI.

Other restaurant planned to open in North Sydney include Sou Ramen Lab at 141 Walker St and Gavi Restaurant at 196 Miller St

There will also be a new multi-level venue called Miller House within the metro precinct that will offer high-dining and bar experiences, due to open in 2025.
