They’re best mates who share a “special bond” and, last Sunday, seven-year-old Harri and her furry friend Monty took the annual Neutral Bay Club’s “pampered pooch parade” by storm.
Dressed up in matching The Very Hungry Caterpillar costumes, the dynamic duo nabbed the top spot in the “pup/owner lookalike” category.
Mother Lauren Sampson said her youngest daughter had been looking forward to the competition ever since her older sister, Georgie, won first place in the same category two years ago with Monty, the family cavoodle.
“We don’t really take this too seriously, but Georgie told Harri ‘no pressure, but I did win this before’,” Ms Sampson said.
“It was lucky we only just had book week and we had a Hungry Caterpillar costume, so I went and bought a smaller one for Monty.”
Ms Sampson said in the days ahead of the competition, Harri and Monty rehearsed their routine.
“They just have such a lovely bond. They’re really best friends,” Ms Sampson said.
“(Events like these) are just perfect for the family.
“Harri’s grandparents and her dad and I and her sisters we were all out there cheering for her.
“And Monty has a lot of extra treats waiting for him.”
