The Mosman community has rallied to stage a memorial service for homeless man Ray Johnson.

The service will be held at 10am next Tuesday, March 15 at Mosman Bay Wharf.

Mosman couple Brynnie and Keith Goodwill are among local residents organising the tribute to Mr Johnson who lived on a bench at the wharf.

“Ray had a beautiful heart and cared deeply for the community,’’ said Mrs Goodwill. “Ray had lived on the street since his teens and valued his independence.’’

Some of the tributes left for Ray at Mosman Bay Wharf following his death just after Christmas.

Ferry commuters were greeted warmly by Mr Johnson every morning and after his death in December, his bench was covered in flowers.

Mrs Goodwill said everyone was welcome to the service, to say a few words, bring flowers or donate to a charity.

One of the last things Ray did was to set up Christmas lights around the bus shelter he called home.
