Is this the solution for Mosman’s traffic woes?
GUITAR hero Ricardo Pumpa wants to save motorists from traffic jams in Mosman with this innovative solution.
- Tunnel left out of government transport plan
- Premier says Military Road tunnel is the best solution
- Spit Bridge cyclists dicing with danger
- Beaches Link tunnel to bypass Mosman
SYDNEY has a new rock ‘n’ road star. Musician Ricardo Pumpa, aka businessman Richard Light, said he has spent $200,000 of his own cash campaigning for a solution to the city’s traffic jams.
He’s written a song, taken out adverts on radio and started an online campaign.
Mosman’s worst traffic snarl is in his sights and he has a revolutionary solution for Military and Spit roads.
“The simple conclusion to the whole traffic mess is to turn it into a one-way system,” Mr Light said.
He thinks Military Rd could be a one-way highway towards the Harbour Bridge, while traffic in the opposite direction would travel along the adjoining streets towards Ourimbah Rd.
Mr Light, who lived in Mosman for three years, sees it as one massive loop all flowing in one direction, which would allow for the elimination of most the traffic lights.
And he’s done his research.
After counting cars in both Mosman and Seaforth, he reckons that the Spit Bridge is not the bottleneck and that the worst point is Spit Junction.
“In my scientific opinion, calls to upgrade Spit Bridge are ridiculous given the traffic light restrictions at either end,” he said.
A Military Rd tunnel has been a hotly debated topic for many years and the State Government has allocated cash to a feasibility study, but Mr Light is not confident the cash will be splashed on the project.
“It would be great but the likelihood of the government spending that kind of money on a northern beaches solution is slim,” he said.
Mr Light set up a successful IT business called Interactive and this funds his passionate projects.
Mr Light’s song is called Sydney Traffic and he has also set up a website called sydneytraffic.org where commuters can vote for the worst intersections and worst traffic signs.
His adverts have featured on several radio stations, including WSFM.
Mr Light plans to present the results of his survey to NSW Premier Mike Baird.
