HSC 2019: Northern Sydney schools ranked by results

We’ve crunched the HSC results across NSW to bring you the ultimate guide to the best and worst schools across the Northern Sydney region. Find out where your school came.

As students pick up their HSC results we can named the top-ranked HSC schools in the Northern Sydney region.

The top-performing schools were ranked according to the number of Band 6 results they achieved, expressed as a percentage of their total course completions.

The most successful school in Northern Sydney was North Sydney Boys High School, in Crows Nest, which produced 612 Band 6 results from a total of 976 course completions.

This result means that 62 per cent of the school’s course completions ranked in the top band.

North Sydney Boys High School was also well represented at Monday’s First in Course awards with four of its students producing state-topping results in German Continuers, German Extension, Mathematics and Engineering Studies.

The second most successful school in Northern Sydney was Hornsby Girls High School, in Hornsby, which produced 397 Band 6 results from a total of 698 course completions.

This result means that 56 per cent of the school’s course completions ranked in the top band.

The academically selective girls school achieved a First in Course award as well, with Shenani Angeleeca Koren topping the state in Spanish Beginners.

The third most successful school in Northern Sydney was North Sydney Girls High School, in Crows Nest, which produced 506 Band 6 results from a total of 925 course completions.

This result means that 54 per cent of the school’s course completions ranked in the top band.

Coming in at fourth was Normanhurst Boys High School, in Normanhurst, which produced 391 Band 6 results from a total of 779 course completions.

This result means that 50 per cent of the school’s course completions ranked in the top band.

The fourth most successful school in Northern Sydney was Abbotsleigh, in Wahroonga, which produced 420 Band 6 results from a total 921 course completions.

This result means that 45 per cent of the school’s course completions ranked in the top band.

Abbotsleigh student Stella Dora Leonardi topped the state in Music 2.

Rounding out the top five was Northern Beaches Secondary College Manly Campus which produced 343 Band 6 results from a total 789 course completions.

This result means that 43 per cent of the school’s course completions ranked in the top band.

The sixth most successful school in Northern Sydney was Loreto Kirribilli, in Kirribilli, which produced 312 Band 6 results from a total of 792 course completions.

This result means that 39 per cent of the school’s course completions ranked in the top band.

Loreto Kirribilli student Emma Cate Scroope topped the state in Personal Development, Health and Physical Education.

The seventh most successful school in Northern Sydney was Knox Grammar School, in Wahroonga, which produced 720 Band 6 results from a total of 1886 course completions.

This result means that 38 per cent of the school’s course completions ranked in the top band.

Knox Grammar cleaned up at the First in Course awards ceremony as well, with Knox students beating the rest of the state in Drama, Legal Studies, Mathematics and Modern History.

The eighth most successful school was Wenona School, in North Sydney, which produced 237 Band 6 results from a total of 647 course completions.

This result means that 36 per cent of the school’s course completions ranked in the top band.

The ninth most successful school was Loreto Normanhurst, in Normanhurst, which produced 309 Band 6 results from a total of 902 course completions.

This result means that 34 per cent of the school’s course completions were ranked in the top band.

The most improved schools in Northern Sydney were calculated by comparing the number of Band 6 results as a percentage of total course completions from 2018 to this year.

Hornsby Girls High School, in Hornsby, was the region’s biggest improver, increasing its percentage of Band 6 results by 11.27 per cent since last year.

In second place was Loreto Kirribilli, in Kirribilli, which increased its percentage of Band 6 results by 11.24 per cent since last year.

The third-biggest improvement was produced by Normanhurst Boys High School, in Normanhurst, which increased its percentage of Band 6 results by 10 per cent.
