Yoga already offers physical and mental health benefits for everyone, improving your strength, balance and flexibility, as well as helping you sleep and even brightening your mood.
But throw in some paw-sitively adorable puppies and it may be the best way to spend your Saturday morning.
Puppy Yoga, a Bondi Junction studio that holds regular sessions, teamed up on the weekend with the Greenwood Hotel to host some sweet pups as part of the pub’s week-long furry friend extravaganza.
“It’s basically like traditional yoga in a sense,” Puppy Yoga’s social media manager, Emma Van Der Hoek, told this masthead.
“We have our mats in the room and we have a yoga instructor in front of the class, but it’s a bit different as we have puppies all throughout the class.
“We encourage people to play with the puppies, cuddle them. We embrace the distractions. It’s really just a fun way of getting your mindfulness in, but also it’s just such a good hit of dopamine.”
Every puppy in attendance is up for adoption, with at least one or two adopted per class. Since the session, nine people have expressed their interests in adopting these cuties.
“People just tend to fall in love with them and they’re like ‘I just want to take them home’,” Ms Van Der Hoek said.
Sharni Aird, 25, attended and absolutely fell in love with a special pup who stuck by her side and eventually fell asleep in her lap.
“I have to get this dog. This is my dog now. This was the best day ever,” Ms Aird said.
“This (was) awesome and it’s such a good idea for the Greenwood to do this. It’s just such a beautiful idea, the whole thing.
“(You’re) getting to do some yoga, which is good for your health, hang out with some puppies and you can adopt them.”
Those who missed out the yoga sessions shouldn’t despair, with plenty of dog-centric events to be held over the rest of this week.
Georgina Bounds from Tilley and Wills, which operates the Greenwood Hotel, is encouraging everyone to come down and get in on the fun.
“We’re celebrating all things dogs, puppies, furry little friends just to spread awareness that Greenwood Hotel is dog-friendly and we love them,” Ms Bounds said.
“Puppy Yoga sold out so fast, in just three days, and all the profits go to the RSPCA so it’s just one huge cause. And everyone is so happy. To see a smile on their faces is amazing.
“We’ve also got a pop-up obstacle course, a tennis ball machine, some competitions running.
“There’s a lot happening so it’s worth coming down.”
