Coaching coup as Brothers nab former Wallaby Matt Ryan to join Roseville ranks
FORMER Australian Wallabies and Queensland Brothers club player Matt Ryan will coach for Brothers rugby club, Roseville.
FORMER Australian Wallabies and Brothers club, Queensland, player Matt Ryan has joined the coaching staff at Brothers rugby club, Roseville.
Ryan is the club's new technical adviser and will work closely with the first-grade squad and with the club's forwards across all the grades.
The former prop said he jumped at the chance to work at a club aligned with his former club in Brisbane.
"You just have to look at their track record over the past few seasons," he said.
"Following demotion they took stock and embarked upon a significant rebuilding and restructure program which has returned massive dividends, winning back-to-back first-grade premierships and club championships with three of the four grades in the finals."
Ryan has coached in the Sydney first-grade rugby competition and has been development officer with Queensland Rugby Union.
He was also the technical adviser for the Fiji and Singapore national teams.
Brothers president Ian Gibson said Ryan would work closely with first-grade coach and club coach Tom Burns.
"This is not only a huge boon for the club but for rugby within the district," he said.
"I've been associated with Brothers for over 15 years and this is definitely one of the biggest appointments the club has made during my time here."
