Bring Jack Home campaign to save greyhounds sold into ‘cruel’ conditions at Macau Canidrome
GREYHOUNDS sent to race in Macau face a terrible fate, with dogs destroyed as soon as they are injured or fail to perform — a campaign has been launched to give them loving homes.

Millie is a much loved family pet but her brother Jack languishes in a concrete cage in Macau.
“Every time I look at Millie and think of Jack I get tears in my eyes — it’s heartbreaking,’’ says Millie’s owner Nora Anderson-Dieppe.
Millie was hailed as a “bionic dog’’ when her amputated paw was replaced with a prosthetic paw by Mosman vet Abbie Tipler.
Millie, a brindle greyhound, has since become a poster girl in protests against greyhound racing.
Now she’s leading a new campaign to Bring Jack Home and she was front and centre at a protest outside the Irish consulate in Sydney last week.
Jack was due to be adopted in 2011, at the same time sister Millie was rescued, but at the last minute, his trainer sold him for $500.
Jack was then auctioned off for racing at The Canidrome track in Macau.
“The greyhound racing in Macau is particularly outdated and cruel,’’ says Mrs Anderson-Dieppe.
“Greyhounds are kept in small concrete cages stacked on top of each other like an apartment building.’’
Mrs Anderson-Dieppe says Jack will be euthanised as soon as he is injured or fails to win. It is estimated 30 greyhounds are euthanised at Macau each week.
There are still 720 Australian greyhounds racing at Macau, although airlines now refuse to ship greyhounds there. Trainers have turned to bringing in greyhounds from Ireland, sparking a worldwide campaign to shut the racetrack down.
With the Bring Jack Home campaign at the forefront, it is hoped to bring all 720 greyhounds back to Australia for adoption: facebook.com/bringjackhometoaustralia/
Charges laid
Greyhound Racing NSW has charged 179 trainers and owners for the alleged unauthorised exports of dogs to Macau.
Exporting greyhounds to Macau has been banned by the regulator since 2013.
The charges were issued as part of an ongoing inquiry launched by the regulator last December following a report on ABC’s 7.30 program which revealed that hundreds of greyhounds deemed too slow for racing in Australia were being exported to Asia.
