$120,000 spent on repairs to popular Sydney Harbour foreshore walking track
A POPULAR walking track along the Sydney Harbour foreshore has reopened after a 14-week closure.
A POPULAR walking track in Mosman has reopened after a 14-week closure.
The 600m Middle Head Rd to Georges Head track, which forms part of the Sydney Harbour Foreshore walk, was closed while $120,000 worth of repairs were carried out, in which new sandstone paths were laid and drainage problems rectified.
Sydney Harbour Federation Trust director of asset management and operations, Jamie Lonie, told the Mosman Daily the track was first opened more than a decade ago.
“It was one of the original pieces of infrastructure when the Trust first took over the land,” Mr Lonie said.
“It’s one of our most widely used tracks. It provides a vital link between National Parks and Wildlife Service land and connects up to the stairs that go up to Balmoral Beach.”
Mr Lonie said while the track was only small in distance, it was frequently used by locals and visitors alike as it passed near Frenchy’s Cafe, recent Sculpture by the Sea entries and the famed Georges Head lookout.
He said the track had been ripe for repair.
“Through people walking on the track and erosion through water, the track degraded quite quickly,” he said.
