IT’S GOUDA news for Neutral Bay with the launch of a brand new cheese and wine bar on Grosvenor Lane.

The new venue, called The Cheese and Wine Co, was established by Sean Christie and Tiago Cardoso da Silva, who run a popular Instagram account under the same name.

After their food focused Instagram account amassed over 100K followers, the pair decided to turn it into a bricks and mortar business.

The intimate new venue has been given a luxurious fit-out, perfect for kicking back with a brie and a glass of red.

“We wanted to make it feel like you’re walking into our Instagram account,” says Sean.

The walls have been redone in a dark and moody charcoal, while low-hanging Edison globes and potted fernery drip from the ceiling.

Patrons can prop themselves up at the shiny copper bar or sink into one of the many red velvet armchairs.

However, the most eye-catching feature in the whole joint are the antipasto boards, which are loaded with soft and hard cheeses, hand sliced salumi, fresh fruits, olives, herbs, nuts and lavosh.

Patrons can pick their own cheeses from the 13 on offer, which includes brie, camembert, gorgonzola, goat’s chevre, burrata, pecorino and more.

Sean’s favourite pairing is the Spanish manchego with the Bodega Lan Crianza tempranillo while Diego prefers the French aged comté with the Payten and Jones pinot noir.

The menu also features cheese-inspired share plates, with options such as the grilled haloumi with nuts, grapes and chilli pepper jam, an oozy deep-fried camembert with truffle honey and bouncy balls of Brazilian cheese bread, topped with Grana Padano and rosemary.

The wine list, which currently sits at 33 drops, is set to rotate every three months.

“We wanted to give some exposure to the smaller, boutique wineries that don’t get a run in Dan Murphy’s and BWS,” says Sean.

To ensure a premium drinking experience, The Cheese and Wine Co has partnered with Riedel, and all drops are matched to the proper crystal glassware.

“If you’re going to drink good quality wine then you’re going to want a nice glass to go with it,” says Sean.

Starting this month, The Cheese and Wine Co will also be holding a monthly cheese and wine night with local winemakers and cheesemongers.

The event will showcase a number of artisan cheese and wine pairings, with the first event kicking off next Wednesday April 18 with Scott McWilliams from McWilliams Wines.

Tickets are $79 and can be booked via the The Cheese and Wine Co website.
