IF YOU haven’t already tried the burgers at Royal Stacks, we suggest getting your buns down there quick.
The Melbourne-based burger chain is famous for their In-N-Out style burgers and creative sides, which include chilli cheese fries, frozen custard and alcoholic shakes.
The Chatswood venue marks the fourth Royal Stacks in Australia, with the chain launching a fifth outpost in Chongqing, China last month.
“I would describe the burgers as simple and classic. We use pasture-fed beef with no hormones or antibiotics, and we try to keep the ingredients as fresh as possible,” says Dani Zeini, the Royal Stacks founder.
“I think it’s the simple strong flavours that people appreciate and you can really taste the quality of the beef in our burgers.”
Unlike typical fast food joints, Royal Stacks make their own brioche buns instore daily.
“We also use a different process which makes the gluten easier to digest. You won’t feel heavy and uncomfortable after eating our burgers,” says Dani.
The chain’s bestseller is their most simple burger, the Single Stack, which includes a beef patty, tomato, butter lettuce, American cheddar, pickles and their signature special sauce.
“It can be difficult to stand out in today’s heavily saturated burger market, so we’ve also created some fun and playful options too,” says Dani.
Some of the more attention-seeking offerings include the king burger which is made with a mac and cheese croquette and their truffle-infused Miss Elizabeth burger.
Royal Stacks also run a daily special, which often sees beef patties, fried chicken and bacon stacked to jaw-dropping heights.
To accompany the burgers, customers can choose from a side of skinny fries or potato gems loaded with cheese or chilli cheese sauce, plus there’s also freshly churned frozen custard, in flavours such as peanut butter fudge brownie and blue cookie dough.
“Frozen custard is similar to gelato, only it’s made with eggs which gives it a little more density,” says Dani.
“We also store it at a slightly warmer temperature, so it’s a little creamier.”
For the royal treatment, trade up your soft drink for one of the milkshake options, which include frozen custard and alcoholic shots.
Options include the Life of Pablo made from salted caramel custard with Patron tequila, or the Toblerone, which contains chocolate hazelnut custard spiked with Kahlua, Baileys and Frangelico.
Alongside soft drinks and milkshakes, Royal Stacks also serve beer and cider on tap, including Young Henry’s Newtowner and Marrickville’s Grifter pale ale, or you can also pair a sav blank or shiraz with your stack.
