Sydney Skinny swimmers bare bums for brain cancer
Swimmers stripped off for the Sydney Skinny nude swim for charity at the weekend. Can you spot your bum on Cobblers Beach in our photos?
Brave swimmers bared their bums in the pouring rain on Sunday to raise funds for brain cancer.
The Sydney Skinny is Australia’s fastest growing swim event and every year participants strip off at Cobblers Beach in Mosman for a lap in the harbour.
This year they raised $65,000 for the Charlie Teo Foundation, a charity set up by the pioneering neurosurgeon to raise funds for brain cancer research.
“For people like you and me who don’t have brain cancer to get out of their comfort zone for one day is not a big ask,” Dr Teo said.
More than 1500 people took part in this year’s event, which marked its seventh anniversary.
The life affirming event celebrates all the good things in life: acceptance, community and courage.
IN PREVIOUS YEARS...
“The Skinny is never about being seen nude or seeing anyone else nude,” founder Nigel Marsh said.
“Instead, it is about leaving all pretences behind, kickstarting a new and exciting chapter in life and focusing on the things that unite us like kindness, friendship adventure, laughter, diversity, charity and, above all, joy.”
About 1600 people are diagnosed with the disease in Australia every year and the relative five-year survival has barely changed for three decades.
In comparison breast cancer survival rates have increased by 18 per cent.
It also kills more people under 40 than any other cancer.
