Sub Base Platypus to offer Sydney Harbour view restaurants

A former submarine base at North Sydney will become a waterfront dining venue and a novel place to work, as seen by newly released designs.
The former HMAS Platypus submarine base at Neutral Bay opened to the public in May as the federal government continues to make Sub Base Platypus suitable for visitors.
While visitors are already enjoying its views and parkland, the Sydney Harbour Federation Trust is converting old buildings for new uses.
The former submarine school and fleet workshops will be leased for restaurants and offices.
Harbour Trust CEO Mary Darwell believed the waterfront location and views would make it a popular dining spot.
She expected restaurants and offices to open there from late next year.
The government has spent about $70 million on the site. The land was contaminated during its time as a gas works and $50 million was spent to clean it up.
A walkway links the parkland to neighbouring Kesterton Park, and there is a children’s playground and barbecues.
While making the base a place of work and leisure, Ms Darwell said the trust would ensure its indigenous, gas works and naval history was recognised.
