‘Outsiders’ offload rubbish in Raglan St Mosman

A MOSMAN resident has complained that people from outside the area are dumping their rubbish in Raglan St, in anticipation of the council’s household clean-up collection this month.

A RAGLAN St resident has been left bewildered at her street being treated like a rubbish tip during Mosman Council’s household clean-up collection this month.

Maggie Chegwyn previously reported “bizarre” multiplying mattresses to the Mosman Daily in August 2010, when half a dozen blocked the driveway of her apartment block.

“But it’s never been like this,” she said last week, describing the rubbish strewn across many nature strips.

“We have a lovely street that is now looking rather like the local tip.

“For the past three weeks piles of rubbish have been accumulating. We have had mattresses dumped as well.

“It appears that each morning more rubbish has appeared.

“It’s just getting enormous; sometimes people could not park their cars because there was stuff spilling onto the road.

“Our collection is not until February 23, but people are adding to these piles.

“As a resident of Mosman, it’s a real shame.”

Ms Chegwyn said each side of Raglan St had different dates for collection.

“They should maybe look at collecting the rubbish on both sides on the same date. Different dates just add to the stuff piling up,” she said.

“I think some of the initial rubbish was from locals, but I’m very sure, by the amounts that keep piling up, it’s from outside people coming at night-time to dump their stuff.”

The council’s waste collection dates differ according to which day and zone apply to individual addresses. The next free household clean-up collection is in August.

The council’s spokeswoman said that because of the tragic accident at Dee Why on February 8, contractor URM was behind schedule.

“URM has advised it will be back on schedule by the end of the week,” she said.

“This has been compounded by residents presenting rubbish early. Residents are advised to check council’s MyMosman app, which displays waste collection and clean-up details based on individual residential zones, or council’s website.”

The council’s e-Waste drop-off day on February 11 saw more than 950 people offload e-Waste for recycling; a record number of participants. About 95 per cent of the material will be diverted from landfill.
