Mosman residents are being urged to boycott Woolworths in a bid to stop a supermarket development on Military Road.
A community group is campaigning against the retail giant after it bought several buildings in the shopping village.
“Boycott Woolworths,” the group Mosman Village Community states on its website.
“Woolworths is tracking you. It knows how many Mosman residents shop at its nearby supermarkets, including Neutral Bay, Northbridge and Crows Nest.
“Stop shopping at Woolworths to send the signal you won’t support a Woolworths supermarket in Mosman.”
Woolworths did not have any direct comment to make on the boycott but says it has engaged with the community group.
It has held community workshop sessions to understand priorities in the area and to gain feedback to help design its future plans in Mosman.
“We heard at these meetings the importance of the area’s heritage and village characteristics, along with challenges associated with traffic and carparking,” a spokeswoman said.
“Community members also discussed the importance of any future development complementing existing businesses in Mosman, and provided comments on opportunities for a town square-style dining precinct and other community facilities.”
There will be further rounds of consultation in August and September.
Woolworths quietly spent millions buying a string of properties along Military Road and is planning a retail outlet in the area.
The site in question is on land bound by Belmont Road and Gouldsbury St and Woolworths has purchased several of the properties on the strip.
This does not include the popular Mosman RS Club, which is governed by different rules to standard commercial property.
No decisions for the planned retail outlet have yet been made by the supermarket giant.
