Mosman Mayor Carolyn Corrigan has put her name in the ring again in a bid to take the long-held seat of north shore from the Liberal party.

Mosman Mayor Carolyn Corrigan has put her name in the ring again to take the seat of North Shore from the Liberal party.

Cr Corrigan first ran for NSW parliament in the 2017 by-election but was defeated by Liberal candidate Felicity Wilson.

This time she believes she can win.

“The margin is now so much closer. The seat has gone from a blue ribbon safe seat to a marginal seat,” Cr Corrigan said.

The independent candidate became well known in the community for her fight against council amalgamations.

Traffic is one of the biggest issues in the area currently and she wants the best solution for now and the future.

The State Government wants to build a network of tunnels from the northern beaches to the city, which would bypass the Spit and Military Roads corridor.

She supports a road tunnel that meets international safety and environmental standards — but also wants a public transport component.

“The Spit Bridge tunnel is all gain and no pain for Mosman residents, but the story is not so rosy for our near neighbours in Cammeray and North Balgowlah,” she said.

“It is an absolute imperative that a long-term private and public mass transport focused traffic solution is found.”

North Shore has traditionally been a Liberal heartland but has been represented by independents: Ted Mack and Robyn Read. Both Labor and the Greens are also fielding candidates.
