A MOSMAN Council business breakfast has renewed support for more outdoor dining and night life options in the suburb.
The council hosted the event for about 50 business people in Mosman Art Gallery last week, as part of preparations for its new Community Strategic Plan, MOSPLAN 2018-2028.
Coming capital works to boost Mosman’s alfresco dining choices include improvements to the Centenary Circle area, in front of The Buena hotel at Mosman Junction. The project is being tendered this month.
Mayor Carolyn Corrigan said the breakfast was very successful and she hoped it would become a feature in the council’s calendar.
“It was really about the opportunity to listen and engage with Mosman’s business community,” she said.
“Our focus is back on (enhancing) Mosman, now that our independence is assured.”
Councillor Corrigan said the Centenary Circle works would be “a wonderful addition” to the municipality.
“We are really excited because one of the consistent messages was that desire to activate the night-time economy and bring Mosman alive at night,” she said.
“It was also one of the big issues that people talked about at election time: to revive Mosman’s night-life and laneways.”
Cr Corrigan said another idea which sparked a lot of interest was an “eat street” concept, which has been suggested previously.
“A particularly good area would be somewhere here near the Village Green; we have lots of fabulous restaurants already in that area,” she said.
Mosman Chamber of Commerce vice-president Carol Fallows attended the business breakfast and said it was “excellent”.
“It would be great if the council did it on a regular basis,” she said.
Ms Fallows strengthened her support for alfresco dining by covering the courtyard of her restaurant, Stranded, with a roofed pergola in the past month, to give customers an all-weather outdoor dining venue.
The council’s spokeswoman said the major issue raised by businesses at the breakfast was the availability of parking.
