THE Kirribilli Centre is a haven for new mums and their bubs with a sunny courtyard tucked behind an elegant Victorian era building in Fitzroy St around the corner from Luna Park.

The community hubs prides itself on being a weekday 9-5 drop in for women who, through language or cultural issues, might not get to meet other mums like themselves.

With no rigid schedule, the relaxing time out in one of the lower north shore busiest areas is growing more popular by the week and encapsulates the Kirribilli Centre’s aim to do something everyday for isolated or tired mums.

Marketing manager Jo Harvey told the Mosman Daily: “Everyone is welcome to participate and we offer a beautiful safe environment for kids to socialise while mums gets to know each other and build those networks. Many mums live in apartments and we have quite a transient population with family from overseas only in the area for a short time due to work. So it can be hard to make those connections to break down the isolation. “

The centre is self funded through room hire and runs the Kirribilli Markets also offers a part funded Being Mums support group for women suffering post natal depression. Pilates, yoga, storytelling and mediation are also very popular.

Ms Harvey says that on Tuesdays and Fridays, TAFE hospitality students run a casual cafe which gives them customer experience.

“We love being involved in DoSomething Day because it’s all about making people feel welcome and letting them know that other people can struggle sometimes too but there is always a friend to hand.”
