Guerrilla campaign targets Tony Abbott MP with posters
A MYSTERIOUS protest group has gone on a poster blitz in Mosman, targeting the former prime minister ahead of the next election.
A MYSTERIOUS underground group is undertaking a poster blitz in a bid to dethrone Tony Abbott MP.
Think Twice Warringah has targeted Mosman with a series of posters using quotes attributed to the former prime minister.
The group members wish to stay anonymous but put forward a spokesman to explain their actions.
“Our message is simple, hold Tony to account for his views and comments over the last 24 years as the Member for Warringah, and in turn, have voters reconsider their vote in 2019,” he said.
The posters have appeared at Balmoral Beach and on Military Road.
The “guerrilla campaign” is also running across the northern beaches and photos of Mr Abbott on the posters include him in swimwear on the beach and kissing Pauline Hanson on the cheek.
Voices of Warringah, which is not connected to Think Twice Warringah, also wants change in the electorate. President Louise Hislop has noticed the posters appearing in the area and spoke about the group.
“They are an underground group and they are not keen to be identified,” Ms Hislop said.
“It’s formed by a group of young people and they had the idea that they wanted people to think twice about what they were voting for.”
Think Twice Warringah started small but has had a strong response on Instagram and organisers have been heartened by the number of people keen to get involved.
Mr Abbott declined to comment on the campaign. He has a policy of not responding to anonymous criticism.
