THE ENSEMBLE Theatre is a second home for actors and married couple Brian Meegan and Kate Raison.

Together and individually the couple have starred in more than thirty plays at the Kirribilli venue throughout their careers.

And it is fitting that they have been invited to become patrons of the theatre.

“It’s really been a place that’s been like home to me in many ways,” Raison said.

“Really my job as patron is to let the world know what a special place this is whenever I can.”

Kate studied at the Ensemble and won her first professional role there in the early 1980s. She has worked there consistently over the decades alongside her screen career and praises it for affording her many beautiful opportunities and roles.

The theatre means a lot to the couple and it has a special place in their family. They met for the first time through one of its outside productions and their daughter Hannah-Rae now works there alongside her university studies.

“In a roundabout way we met through a production that was being done by the Ensemble,” Raison said.

“It has that special personal connection for us as well. It goes deeper than just working here.”

The first play they did together at the Ensemble was 20 years ago and they have worked on stage together five times since. This includes three two-handers — Wrong for Each Other, Ninety and Two.

Meegan describes the relationship he has with the theatre as incredibly special and very rare. He has enjoyed playing a diverse range of characters over the years and as patron is looking forward to giving back.

“Ensemble Theatre has always been a welcoming and unpretentious environment that really does feel like home,” he said.

The couple joins Georgie Parker and Todd McKenney as patrons.
