A PROTEST rally is taking place this weekend against overdevelopment in the lower north shore.
Residents concerned about advanced plans for high rise towers have joined together as a new group called OVERdevelopment — We’re OVER It!
The group is focused on plans for a strip of suburbs from Naremburn to North Sydney, including development earmarked above Sydney Metro stations.
Former North Sydney Mayor Genia McCaffery is the group’s spokeswoman and is urging the wider community to join the protest.
“Since I retired five years ago I’ve been watching what the coalition government has been up to with increasing alarm,” Ms McCaffery said.
“This is a Hong Kong style planning model, it’s not appropriate for Sydney.”
The group is concerned about the increased population density, loss of community and congestion.
It is hoped that hundreds of people will turn out to the rally and Ms McCaffrey said it’s about time people show their opposition to large scale development.
The rally is taking place on Saturday at 11am in Hume St Park, Crows Nest. The Mosman Daily has contacted the State Government for comment.
