FAMOUS for their cronuts, cruffins and coffees, award-winning cafe Brewtown has just opened its doors in Cammeray.
Taking over from The Farm Wholefoods on Miller St, Brewtown marks the third venue for the popular bakery and roastery chain, which also has outposts in Newtown and Surry Hills.
Brewtown owner Simon Triggs chose Cammeray for the next site as he lives nearby and knew it would be a good fit for the area.
“I know Cammeray well having gone to school on Miller St and growing up in the area. I felt very comfortable opening here,” he says.
“The locals are a welcoming bunch and I love the village atmosphere.”
The Brewtown food menu is filled with fun and tasty brunch fare, made from high-quality local produce.
“The offering is small but carefully constructed to suit a wide range of tastes and dietary needs,” Simon says.
Many of the menu items are original Brewtown classics, including the beetroot cured salmon bagel with soft herbs and hung yoghurt and the corned beef hash with garden peas, crispy potatoes and parmesan breadcrumbs.
Simon’s personal favourite is the shrimp hoagie, a crispy long roll stuffed with scrambled eggs, prawns, coriander, chilli and smoky mayo.
“A hoagie is a loaded Italian sandwich which is very popular in Philadelphia and New York. We’ve given ours an Asian inflection,” says Simon
Brewtown also have a reputation for flaky pastries, which are baked on-site in their Newtown bakery.
Their signature offerings are the cruffins (croissant muffins) and the cronuts (called Brewnuts) which are a croissant doughnut hybrid.
Made from crispy layers of deep-fried pastry, the Brewnuts come in mouth-watering flavours such as the strawberry and lavender and the blood orange with chocolate cream filling.
The key lime cruffin topped with torched meringue is another cult favourite.
As the name suggests, Brewtown are very particular about their coffee, which they source, roast and blend themselves.
All white coffees use their Raging Bull house blend, which is a heavy bodied coffee with blackcurrant, tangerine and sweet caramel flavours.
“Our relationship with farmers and producers is strong and our staff love to chat about the coffee origins and flavour profiles, so please be sure to ask,” says Simon.
Those interested in learning a bit more about coffee are welcome to come along to one of the upcoming coffee education classes, home brewing workshops and cupping sessions, which will be held free of charge in Brewtown Cammeray’s back shed.
