PLANS for a “world class” solution to North Sydney CBD’s woes are ramping up as the State Government seeks approval to build a landmark commercial and retail hub.
The public can now have their say on a proposed 42-storey building above the Sydney Metro Victoria Cross Station — due for completion by late 2022 — after an environmental-impact statement was lodged with the Department of Planning and Environment last week.
It would be 168m with 40 commercial storeys and two storeys for rooftop plant for the high-rise portion.
Three groups have been short-listed for the tender to build the underground Miller St station and game-changing hub. It is the first integrated station package to be short-listed on the Sydney Metro City and Southwest project.
North Shore MP Felicity Wilson said the development would transform North Sydney’s CBD into a vibrant and accessible location.
“Sydney Metro will make it faster and easier to get around the city, but it also delivers an opportunity to create world class destinations that will shape Sydney’s future,” she said.
“North Sydney will get a new commercial and retail hub in its CBD and be more connected than ever before — only five minutes to the heart of Sydney at Martin Place and three minutes to Barangaroo.”
Northwest services are expected to kick off the $20 billion-plus Sydney Metro project in the first half of 2019.
The metro rail is set to be extended in 2024 under Sydney Harbour to the CBD and beyond to Bankstown.
The government says a new metro train will then run every two minutes in each direction under the Sydney CBD.
The Victoria Cross integrated station development promises to deliver a “modern and accessible metro station, with a plaza creating much-needed public amenity and space, and a sustainable, high-quality commercial development”.
The building proposal is for 40 commercial storeys and two additional floors for rooftop greening projects. It would also include basement car parking with up to 150 spaces.
