Wauchope: Man stabbed three times during robbery attempt

Two teenagers have been charged after they set upon a group of occupants in a Honda Accord, stabbing one of them three times in the chest and torso.

Police are appealing for information after a man was stabbed three times in the chest and torso during a violent attempted robbery at Wauchope.

About 12.30am on Saturday July 10, a group of four people – including a 21-year-old man – were inside a Honda Accord at the intersection of Tallowood Ave and Cameron St, Wauchope, when a group of unknown people approached the vehicle.

Police have been told the group and the 21-year-old engaged in a verbal altercation before they assaulted the man and he was stabbed three times to the chest and torso.

Two other occupants of the vehicle, both men aged 20 and 21, were also assaulted during the incident.

The group demanded wallets and phones from the occupants before they fled the scene on foot through a nearby park.

Officers from Mid-North Coast Police District attended a short time later and established a crime scene.

One of the 21-year-old men was taken to Port Macquarie Base Hospital for treatment to a broken leg and the wounds to his chest and torso.

The other two men and a 21-year-old woman were uninjured.

Following extensive inquiries, two teenage boys – aged 16 and 17 – were arrested at Port Macquarie Police Station about 11.40am the same day.

The 16-year-old was charged with two counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm in company of other(s), and one count each of assault with intent to rob in company, reckless wounding and destroy or damage property.

The 17-year-old was charged with three counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm, and one count each of assault with intent to rob in company and malicious damage.

They were both granted conditional bail to appear at a children’s court on Monday August 2.

As investigations continue into the alleged incident, detectives are appealing for anyone who may have CCTV footage or may have seen or heard anything suspicious in the surrounding area between 12am and 1am on Saturday July 10 to contact Port Macquarie Police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
