A heavily-tattooed FIFO worker has faced a Mid-North Coast court in handcuffs charged with a slew of serious offences, including raping a woman, stalking, assault and choking.
Joshua Wayne O’Brien faced Port Macquarie Local Court in the dock on Wednesday afternoon.
The 32-year-old man’s defence lawyer sought bail from Magistrate Georgina Darcy.
O’Brien works in Western Australia on a fly-in-fly-out (FIFO) basis and lives in the Port Macquarie area when he is not working, the court was told.
He has been charged with one count each of stalking/intimidating, common assault, intentionally choking a person without consent and sexual intercourse without consent.
Ms Darcy said the charges would likely end up in the District Court, meaning O’Brien could spend a lengthy time remanded in custody if he was not granted bail.
She granted bail, but ordered O’Brien not to come any closer to Port Macquarie than the town of Kew, about 33 kilometres to the south, when he is not in WA.
O’Brien must enter a bail surety of $1000 and cannot leave the country.
The case was adjourned to February 22.
