After wading through hundreds of nominations and tallying votes, in our online poll, for the Mid-North Coast’s best hairdresser, it came down to a race between two – and they couldn’t be split.

Congratulations to our joint winners Francina Mills of Xstyles Hair Salon, Hallidays Point, and Kerry Jenkins Hairstylist, Diamond Beach.

The pair were drilled down to a voting shortlist from more than 700 public nominations across the Mid-North Coast.

The sheer volume of nominations and weight of poll votes across the board forced an extension to the time for voting, in the hope of being able to find a clear top pick.

However, as of Monday, they couldn’t be split – so we’re happy to announce them as our joint winners.

“Thank you hugely to all my amazing clients whom took the time and nominated me and voted. I‘m humbled and so honoured that you all feel this way,” Kerry Jenkins said.

“I absolutely love what I do and the faces that I see on a regular basis. Many special bonds and friendships have been made along the way.

“Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine this happening.”

It was an equally humbled and thrilled Francina Mills, who dedicated the win to the close-knit community of Hallidays Point, her loyal clientele base and the work she’s put in for more than 30 years to establish her brand and reputation.

“It’s about satisfying your market, it’s about meeting their needs,” Ms Mills said.

“I like having a presence in the community and I like being involved.”

“In hairdressing, it’ all about consistency, having a good reputation, doing good work and training.”

Having opened her first salon in 1990, Ms Mills has moved throughout the Mid-North Coast owning and operating businesses in several locations before settling on Blackhead, Hallidays Point, where she’s been for 13 years.

It’s been a much shorter time for Ms Jenkins, however, having built up her Mid-North Coast base over the past last three years since moving from Parkes in the state’s central west.

“But the support and loyalty has been phenomenal,” she said.

“This was such a great surprise after what 2020 has handed us.”

Thanks to everyone that voted and to all the nominated finalists.
