When it comes to whetting your appetite with a refreshing cocktail, cold beer or a scrumptious meal overlooking the beautiful Hastings River – there’s only one bar that does it best.
Port Macquarie’s The Beach House, on Horton St, has been voted by The Mid-North Coast News readers as the best venue in the region – bar none.
The speak-easy spot, hidden on the edge of Town Green, is a favourite among locals looking for an easy afternoon ale, a fine dining dinner or some Sunday tunes in the sun.
Owned by the Taphouse Group, it is one of many popular venues the organisation runs, which includes the Port Macquarie ‘Macca’ Hotel just a few doors down.
A spokeswoman for the Taphouse Group said the distinguished best bar win was a huge honour given everything that had transpired in the hospitality industry over the last 12 months.
“Given everything that the hospitality sector has been through over the last year, it‘s great to know that we have so much support here in Port,” she said.
“We love doing what we do and are so grateful for our loyal clientele.
“Even though Port does get a lot of people coming through, it still has that small-town feel which is made so special by the locals.
“We love being able to connect with our regulars daily whether it be someone popping in for lunch during the week or a cocktail on the weekends.”
The Beach House is an iconic coastal venue that stands as a favourite hangout among Port Macquarie locals, thanks to its prime waterfront location.
The original venue is steeped in history, having opened in 1841 as the Hotel Royal, or as it was sometimes called – ‘the Major’s Hotel.’
Built by Major Archibald Clunes Innes on land purchased at the first sale of Crown Lands in Port Macquarie, it was primarily intended to accommodate visiting officers and new settler.
The hotel was burnt down in 1886 and rebuilt in 1887. Over the years numerous alteration and additions were made and in 1999 the building was completely restored back to the era of the 1880s.
The Royal Hotel then became the The Beach House offering today’s quintessential pub experience with stunning waterfront dining.
