A violent repeat domestic violence offender allegedly sliced his girlfriend with a Samurai sword in a shocking attack.

Violence against women: Australia is facing an epidemic worse than terrorism

A 33-year-old man has been accused of slashing his partner with a Samurai sword in a bloody, meth-induced attack, sparking a NSW court’s decision to ban him from being within a 150km radius to his alleged victim.

Telverne Williams appeared at Port Macquarie Local Court on August 19, charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm (domestic violence), armed with intent to commit indictable offence, and common assault.

It comes after allegations of assault on his girlfriend of 11 years in April, which allegedly saw a meth-affected Williams punch the woman in the head more than 10 times.

“(He) also kicked, dragged the victim around, and assaulted the victim with objects that were (in the kitchen),” police claimed in court documents.

Attempting to escape Williams, the victim is alleged to have fallen “to the ground due to dizziness of being hit in the head”.

Court documents revealed the man pulled out a Samurai sword – which the victim said she didn’t know was in their shared residence – and allegedly sliced his girlfriend’s thigh, leaving a 10cm cut.

Agreed police facts then recount the victim jumping to the other side of the bed before Williams allegedly struck her in the face, causing her nose to bleed.

“The victim was (initially) too scared to report to police or make a statement,” court documents read.

On May 18, the victim attended Port Macquarie Police Station.

Five days later, the woman visited the police station again where she was able to provide evidence of the alleged offence.

“Police obtained permission from the victim and used force to enter the property,” police facts state.

They soon located Williams, allegedly hiding under a sofa bed in the lounge room.

A sword was seized, and the man arrested.

Williams will reappear at Port Macquarie Local Court in September.

Williams was initially denied bail by police, with authorities citing his record and lack of remorse in their decision.

“(He) has a significant criminal history ... with a broad range of offences, including a domestic violence offence which involved the same victim,” court documents read.

“(Williams) has been before the court a number of times for committing offences while at liberty of bail on other serious matters.

“(He) has shown no remorse towards the victim after the commission of the offence.”

The defence offered strict bail conditions for which they claimed Williams could abide by if released.

In considering his bail application on August 19, Magistrate Georgina Darcy warned Williams that this was “a very serious set of allegations” against him.

She decided to grant the offender conditional bail until he reappears next month for the hearing.

Williams is to move to Narrandera where he will live with his mother, be of good behaviour, report to police daily, not go near or contact the victim, not take drugs or drink alcohol, and not go within 150kms of Port Macquarie until his court date.
