A former luxury hotel brand manager who died after experiencing sudden cardiac issues, is being remembered as a “loveable larrikin” who “always showed up for others”.
Adam “Addy” Males, 35, tragically died on July 16 surrounded by family and friends after being rushed into intensive care at St Vincent’s Hospital in Sydney’s eastern suburbs around a month earlier suffering severe heart failure.
Mr Males’s parents Darren and Rosemary Males, who own the Baker’s Delight franchise in Taree, joined Mr Males’s brother Mr Males’s brother Brenten to post a Facebook message on Saturday expressing gratitude for the outpouring of love and support shown to the family.
“Thank you so much to everyone that has supported us over the past six weeks,” they wrote.
“We are devastated with the loss of our wonderful son and our hearts are broken.
“Our amazing team have been running our business for us and we will always be grateful to them all for letting us have the time we needed with our son and brother.”
Those commenting expressed their sorrow over the tragedy.
“Sending all my love and deepest condolences, Adam will be deeply missed,” Venessa Byma wrote.
“So sorry for your loss Rose, Darren and family,” Laura Barrow wrote.
“I’ve been praying for Adam and you all since Mum told me she bumped into you at the hospital. My thoughts are with you all. A bright star gone too soon.”
Friend Ryan Lambert earlier organised a GoFundMe Page to financially help Mr Males, who had suffered a recent redundancy due to an employer going into administration when he was unexpectedly admitted to hospital.
On social media Mr Lambert called on people to contribute images of the “loveable larrikin” for Mr Males’s memorial service, which will be held for family and friends at Taree’s Manning Valley Race Club at 2pm on Friday.
“In honour of Addy, family welcome you to wear colourful and elegant attire,” the invite reads.
On the GoFundMe page Mr Lambert described Mr Males as “a loyal friend, a cherished son and brother, and someone who always shows up for others.”
Mr Males had “been seriously unwell for over two weeks” before being admitted to hospital where he was too weak to reply to many messages of support he received, the page revealed.
The fundraiser has been deactivated but raised over $50,000 in the short time it operated.
“Love you mate,” wrote donor Marc Segall.
