Plans for a four-star resort described by its proponents as the most luxurious to ever be built in South West Rocks has been lodged with Kempsey Shire Council.
The proposed ‘Bay Hotel’ includes plans for a 60-room resort, to be built across four levels, and includes a Roof Top Bar for Hotel and Country Club Guests, with capacity for up to 200 patrons, three small retail premises and a day spa.
There will be 67 undercover parking spaces provided over three levels, with accommodation boasting a mix of interconnecting studios, executive and two bedroom suites and guest suites.
Each suite, the proposal states, will be designed with a ‘modern coastal luxury aesthetic’ and ‘high quality finishes, creating the ultimate sense of relaxation and enjoyment guests to enjoy.’
The interiors overview prepared for ‘The Bay Hotel’ by interior designers Sama & Co, states that the development’s aim is to offer a ‘four-star luxury hotel experience like no other in South West Rocks.’
“The Hotel is intended to be a unique offering, the first of its kind in the region,” the proposal outlines.
“The medium sized 60-room hotel development will boast not only unparalleled comfort, style and quality, but will also be at the heart of the South West Rocks (SWR) Country Club’s main clubhouse and sporting facilities.
“The SWR Country Club considers there is great value in creating a guest experience like that offered by larger resort style properties, with dining, entertainment and sports/recreation opportunities literally at their door step.
“The roof top bar will afford uninterrupted coastline ocean views, something visitors and locals will enjoy immensely.”
The proposal is set to provide a significant economic boost to the region by filling a gap in the market for tourists travelling and looking for high-end accommodation.
“It is anticipated that the 60 room 4 star tourist accommodation proposal will bring significant long term as well as short term economic benefits by filling a gap in accommodation supply within South West Rocks.” the report states.
“Recent analysis of the accommodation stock in South West Rocks has confirmed there are no medium or large sized accommodation properties in the Kempsey LGA. The subject proposed hotel will be the first in the LGA. Coffs Harbour and Port Macquarie by comparison have seven and eight hotels in the medium sized accommodation categories respectively.
“These facts help establish that the subject development will fill a gap that currently exists in the market.
The resort’s construction and ongoing operations is estimated to provide 24 full time direct jobs, injecting $3.58 million into the Kempsey Shire.
From a sales revenue perspective, economic modelling shows the estimated $1.9m annual sales revenue will also directly impact the local Kempsey shire annually by $1.61m.
