A Sydney “Schoolie” is missing off a Mid North Coast beach, having vanished after being spotted struggling in the water.
The 18-year-old, believed to be a student from The King’s School in Sydney, was last seen off Little Bay Beach at Arakoon about 4.30pm on Sunday, and remained missing on Monday despite a full day of frantic searches.
Police and volunteers from Surf Life Saving NSW and Marine Rescue NSW have been looking for the teenager, with the search suspended late on Sunday before resuming at first light on Monday.
Marine Rescue NSW Inspector John Murray said volunteer crews and vessels had been called in from Trial Bay and Marine Rescue Port Macquarie to aid in the search.
Mr Murray said waters from Laggers Point to Gap Beach had been searched for almost eight hours on Monday.
“Both vessels were stood down for the day at 3.45pm after conducting numerous legs offshore alongside a NSW Water Police vessel,” he said.
Crews on both vessels were planning on resuming the search on Tuesday.
It is understood the police co-ordinated search was continuing on Monday afternoon.
