A 36-year-old woman was rushed to Newcastle’s John Hunter Hospital after colliding into a parked truck along Hastings River Dr, Port Macqaurie, on Thursday morning.
Police say the woman, travelling west, crossed to the eastbound side of the road and collided with the parked truck shortly before 1am.
It is understood there were four stationary cars on the truck when the accident occurred.
At the time of the collision the woman was in a critical condition, she has been downgraded to serious but stable.
A NSW Police spokeswoman said emergency services freed the trapped woman from her Ford Territory, before she was transported to Port Macquarie Base Hospital in a serious but stable condition.
“It appears she has veered from the outside lane across a bicycle lane and reared into the back of a vehicle transport van,” she said.
She sustained multiple injuries to her head and her abdomen and transported to Port Macquarie Base Hospital.
She was later flown via Westpac Rescue Helicopter from Port Macquarie Base Hospital to the John Hunter Hospital about 6am.
A specialist medical retrieval team, tasked with carrying out urgent medical transfers, reported she was transported in a stable condition.
A Hunter New England Health District spokeswoman has since confirmed her condition is critical.
