Police allege five teenagers have been arrested after a dramatic police chase involving a stolen car and a chopper unfolded on the streets of a northern NSW town.
About 9am on Wednesday, officers were patrolling the Pacific Hwy at Bulahdelah when they attempted to stop a grey BMW hatchback, believed to be stolen.
The driver allegedly failed to stop and a pursuit was initiated, but later terminated due to safety concerns.
Officers successfully deployed road spikes north of Nabiac before a second chase began.
The BMW eventually came to a stop outside the Taree West shopping centre on Spence St.
Police allege they took four teenage boys – two aged 15 and two aged 14 – from the car, as well as a 17-year-old girl.
The group was taken to the Taree Police Station and has been assisting officers with inquiries.
Photos posted to social media show a person hanging out of a vehicle and a car badly damaged at the front. It’s alleged it’s the BMW involved.
Facebook user BJ Bourke wrote: “The kid hanging out the sunroof was probably pooing his undies, the little turds.”
The recent incident comes just a week after three teenagers were picked up by police, allegedly after using a stolen car to help commit a series of crimes.
Police allege the teens fled in the vehicle and crashed onto the wrong side of the highway, narrowly missing oncoming cars north of Taree.
Terrified witnesses reported seeing the car cross to the wrong side of the road.
“A half wrecked black car zoomed past me. I was heading north … it was in the fast northbound lane heading south … pretty scary!”, Wendy Stewart posted at the time.
