Police have allegedly seized a shortened firearm, ammunition, drugs and steroids during an early morning vehicle stop at Port Macquarie.

Police said Mid North Coast officers were patrolling the town when they stopped a Nissan Pulsar on Clifton Dr and spoke to the 29-year-old female driver and her 39-year-old passenger.

A search of the vehicle allegedly uncovered a firearm, ammunition, cutting implements, and an amount of methamphetamine, cannabis, steroids and unknown tablets.

The male passenger, Peter Malcolm Thurgood, was arrested and taken to Port Macquarie police station and charged with four counts of possessing a prohibited drug and one count each of supplying a prohibited drug – indictable quantity, possessing a shortened firearm (not pistol) without authority, possessing ammunition without holding licence/permit/authority, and custody of knife in public place.

Thurgood, of Kempsey, faced Port Macquarie Local Court on Tuesday where he was not required to enter any pleas.

He was refused bail to reappear in Port Macquarie Local Court on August 30.
