Alan Kershaw, Shaun Bartel arrested after chaotic Port Macquarie crash

Two men faced court after a police chase through Port Macquarie ended in a dramatic collision and officers apprehended two men at the scene and allegedly seized cash, cannabis and more.

Two men have faced Port Macquarie local court after a police chase ended dramatically with two vehicles colliding - one a police car - and officers apprehending two men at the scene.

Police alleged seized cash, cannabis and several mobile phones from the car after the crash at Flynn’s Beach Port Macquarie.

The driver Shaun Bartel, 33, was charged with not stopping for police, driving dangerously, possess prohibited plant, knowing deal with the proceeds of crime, wound a police officer, use an offensive weapon to prevent detention.

His passenger Alan Kershaw, 43, was charged with assaulting a police officer and hinder or resist arrest.

The alleged pursuit began in Frederickton at 4.10am on Tuesday after the vehicle allegedly failed to stop and the chase continued to Willow Place where the vehicle allegedly crashed into a police car.

Both men were arrested at the scene after an assessment by NSW Ambulance paramedics.

Police report that a senior constable was treated for a “laceration to his head as a result of the crash”.

The two accused had additional charges laid during the court proceeding at Port Macquarie on Tuesday.

Bartel was also charged with break and enter property offences at Taree and Camden Head, while Kershaw had warrants executed for alleged assault, property and bail offences.

Both men were refused bail and remain in custody until their next court appearances — January 23 for Bartel and January 8 for Kershaw.
