Mid North Coast police appeal to public following high-speed pursuit, car fire

Police are appealing to anyone who might have more information about, or dashcam footage of, a car that was pursued by authorities and later set alight.

The tragic truth about road deaths in Australia

What started as a random breath test stop by police last Thursday escalated into a high-speed chase and dramatic car fire, with investigators still on the hunt for the suspects.

Local police are calling on the public for more information about, or dashcam footage of, a car that was pursued by authorities and later set alight on the Mid North Coast.
Local police are calling on the public for more information about, or dashcam footage of, a car that was pursued by authorities and later set alight on the Mid North Coast.

Just after 2pm, Mid North Coast police officers tried to stop a silver Mitsubishi Mirage on Freemans Reach Rd but it sped off, with police chasing the vehicle north along Stuarts Point Rd.

Authorities pursued the vehicle through the township of Stuarts Point on Marine Pde, following it out of the town but losing the car on Mighell Rd.

A perimeter was established and the dog unit called in, but no leads on the driver were established until later that afternoon when police received reports of a car alight on the rail corridor at Eungai Creek.

Emergency services joined officers at the scene where the blaze was extinguished and the trained animals deployed, however the dog tracking proved unsuccessful in locating any suspects.

Further investigations determined the car that had been set alight was the same one that police had attempted to stop earlier.

Local authorities have turned to the public for more information, and any relevant dashcam footage that might be available. They are asking anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers (1800 333 000) or South West Rocks police (02 6690 1220).
