A 19-year-old man is being remembered as a “beautiful soul” after he died following a horrific crash on the state’s mid-north coast.
Max Mansfield was killed after his car collided with a tree at the intersection of the Oxley Hwy and Deep Creek Rd at Bagnoo, west of Wauchope, just after 7am Saturday.
Emergency services responded to reports a Daihatsu had left the road and struck a tree.
The teenager and sole occupant of the car died at the scene, with officers from Mid North Coast Police District establishing a crime scene.
Max’s mother, Naomi London, told The Mid-North Coast News of the devastating loss of her son who loved to fish and spend time with his grandmother, Joy London.
“Max had a very special bond with his grandmother who is devastated by the loss of her beautiful grandson,” Ms London said.
“They would often fish together and Max's heart was always happy whenever he was with her."
Max’s younger sister, Lucy Mansfield, said her big brother had enough love in his heart for everyone.
“I will forever miss the way he always tried to act like my dad when we where alone and the way he always wanted to protect me,” she said.
“He always had a shoulder for you to cry on or a smile for you to laugh with he had a contagious energy.
“I will miss my big brother dearly ... forever love you my brother.”
Close friend of the family, Bronte Cook, said she’ll always remember Max as “such a kind hearted boy” who “had respect for anyone.”
“He loved his family so much, he appreciated my mum (Jo) for taking such good care of his grandma that he loves dearly. Forever 19 max”
Mr Mansfield’s girlfriend Charli Dibley said her boyfriend was “one of a kind”.
“You’d never ever meet someone like him,” she told the Mid-North Coast News.
“His smile lit up any room he walked into, he was the most selfless human.”
“He will be so dearly missed by every person who ever had the pleasure to meet his beautiful soul.”
The teenager’s cousin, Kiah Mansfield, said she was lucky to grow up with him as he was “a brother from another mother”.
“If he wasn’t blasting his music for everyone to hear he was out in the surf or down by the water fishing, doing what he loved best,” Ms Mansfield said.
“The most kind hearted soul you’d ever meet, nobody could ever say anything bad about him.”
Family members have described Mr Mansfield as their “guardian angel”, while friends said he was “such a bright happy person”.
“You were such a good bloke and I’ll forever cherish all our memories together ... I will truly miss you bro all the boys will you were family to us taken way to soon,” Beau Charters wrote on Facebook.
