Matthew Neil Turner from Port Macquarie charged with possessing child abuse material

A Mid-North Coast man facing child abuse material charges allegedly told police it should not be criminal to commit such acts and that the children depicted enjoyed it.

A Port Macquarie man facing child abuse material charges allegedly told police the children depicted in the images enjoyed it.

Matthew Neil Turner is facing two charges of possessing child abuse material.

The offences were alleged to have occurred between January 17 and March 13 last year.

The 38-year-old has not yet entered a formal plea in relation to the charges, which allegedly involve possessing a mobile phone and an external hard drive containing category one and two child abuse material.

According to police documents tendered to court Turner is unemployed and living on a disability pension and showed no remorse for his alleged actions.

Turner is also alleged to have told police he believed the children depicted in the images were consenting and ‘enjoyed it’ and that it should not be a criminal act to possess the material.

Police documents further allege that Turner was engaging in online chatrooms that displayed ‘paedophile tendencies’.

The matter has been adjourned to May 4.
